Dark hairs

I have quite a lot of hairs on my body, especially on my legs but also in my face. Nowadays there are a lot of different methods to get rid of unwanted hairs. When I was about 25 years old, I spent a lot of time and money on electrolysis therapy. It does remove hairs, but it was a very time consuming method: the hairs were removed one by one!

Later I have removed hairs from my legs and from the bikini line with Powerlite (IPL). It's a pulse light method that works with pulsating, red light. The light is absorbed into the pigment of the hair roots, and as a consequence, the proteins of those hair cells that are in a grow phase is disturbed, and the growth of new hairs is prevented. All hairs are not in an active growth phase at the same time, so the IPL treatment must be repeated 3-6 times, with 2-3 months intervalls. I have now taken IPL 3 times, and I still have to continue, but the hair growth has decreased a lot. So this works!

Powerlite however removes only dark hairs. It's most effective when the skin is as light as possible. So it's no use to take the treatment when you're tanned! You may remove hairs by shaving between the treatments, also immediately before treatment. Epilators, wax and other methods that remove hairs with there roots, should not be used.

Light, slight hairs

I removed the dark hairs from my upper lip with Powerlite some years ago. I was treated 5-6 times, and after that they were forever gone.

The light and slight hairs though remained. Of course, they didn't disturbed as much as the "mustache" that I had had before, but two years ago I find a cure also for this. I happened to mention about the problem to a dermatologist, and she told me that a new medicine cream named Vaniqa had newly come to the Finnish market.

It's not a permanent method, but as long as you use the cream, the hairs will stay gone. First you have to remove the hairs normally, for example by shaving or waxing. When you then use the Vaniqa cream morning and evening for the first three months, and after that once a day, they won't grow.

I kept the tube unopened in the bathroom for quite long, since I was afraid that removing the hairs would make the situation worse and that they would become darker. After gathering courage enough, I decided to try it on my upper lip and jaw, where the situation was worst. I used Veet Face wax stripes to remove the hairs. After this, the area has stayed completely hairless thanks to Vaniqa!

Vaniqa is a prescription drug, and the first prescription was written to me by a dermatologist. After that, I have had it renewed by a general practitioner. Nowadays, if you have an e-prescription, you can order it directly from the webshop of the pharmacy, at least in Finland.

The cream is expensive (about 70 euros), but lasts very long. Now, when using it once a day to my upper lip and jaw, one tube lasts for 3-4 months. It's really worth its' price!
